Description
‘Love’ has bloomed in Bengali literature since Charyapada. It had been reflected through various phases of attraction, estrangement and union in the works of the poets and lyricists. Then in the nineteenth century, the age of novel began with the works of Bankimchandra. Love, with its wonderful sweetness, also entered into novels. The romantic novels in Bengali literature are superlatively enriched. The novelists have thrown lights upon different phases of life and time. Sunil Gangopadhyay, the greatest author of present times, has endeavoured to compile this trend of the enriched tradition of Bengali literature in two volumes for the future generations of readers and research workers. In the first volume he has chosen the works of Bankimchandra, Rabindranath, Saratchandra, Bibhutibhusan Bandyopadhyay, Bibhutibhusan Mukhopadhyay, Tarashankar, Jibanananda and Saradindu Bandyopadhyay. The second volume consists of the works of Banaphool, Achintya Kumar Sengupta, Syed Mujtaba Ali, Probodh Kumar Sanyal, Satinath Bhaduri, Manik Bandyopadhyay, Buddhadeb Basu, Subodh Ghosh and Jyotirindra Nandy.
