Description
The novel ‘Abar Yakher Dhan’ was first published in serial form in ‘Mouchak’ newspaper from Baisakh 1338 (April 1931) issue. The novel later appeared in book form from ‘Dev Sahitya Kutir’ in 1933.
In 1980, the artist Mayukh Chowdhury made the novel ‘Abar Jakher Dhan’ into a graphic novel and it was serially published in the pages of ‘Shuktara’ newspaper till 1985 under the name ‘Gupta Dhaner Dhanne’. It is the largest adventure story (119 pages) serially published in the pages of a Bengali newspaper which ran for five long years (Shuktara, 1387 Asha to 1392 Magha). What particularly attracted the readers in this story was the face of the adventurous Bengali youth Bimal-Kumar, which artist Mayukh Chowdhury portrayed in the style of two popular heroes of the time, Uttam Kumar and Soumitra Chattopadhyay. This novel idea was appreciated by the readers at the time and they got enough thrill to have the two favorite heroes as the central characters of the adventure story.
Incidentally, Bimal-Kumar’s first novel ‘Yakher Dhan’ was serially published in the newspaper ‘Mouchak’ from Baishakh 1330 (April 1923). Later it was published in book form in 1926 by ‘MC Sarkar and Sons’. Although there is no direct connection between the two stories. The background of ‘Jakher Dhan’ is Assam in India and the background of ‘Abar Jakher Dhan’ is the continent of Africa.
